The British Drilling Association (BDA) is the UK's trade association for the ground drilling industry.

New Chair at the Helm of the British Drilling Association

10th May 2018

The British Drilling Association (BDA) has appointed Martyn Brocklesby its new Chair. Martyn Brocklesby, presently Director at Geotechnical Engineering Ltd, replaces Anne Baxter, who steps down having completed her statutory two-year tenure at the helm.

In addition to promoting the Association's core aims such as improving efficiency, health & safety awareness and overall standards in the industry, Martyn will focus on continuing to raise the profile and status of the BDA, both to drillers but also within the wider construction sector.

Speaking about his new role as Chair of the BDA, Martyn said: "It is an honour to be appointed Chair of the BDA. Drilling is not just a sector I work in, but one which I want to see continually develop and will take every opportunity presented to support and promote.

Martyn added: "I will be doing all I can to continue to raise the drilling sector's profile and status by engaging with members, non-members and all sectors and industry bodies on which the drilling industry impacts - ensuring the voice of the sector is not only heard but listened too."

A qualified Geologist, Martyn's career in the UK ground investigation sector commenced in 1992 working for a major contractor as a site engineer. Since then his career has developed into roles as a site agent, contract engineer, project manager, department manager, senior manager and to company director.

In 2001 Martyn was elected a member of the British Drilling Association. Since 2001, he has worked actively on the Management Committee, chaired the Working Group which was responsible for the update of the BDA Contaminated Land Guidance document (which is currently under review and update again) he also headed the Working Group for the development of the current BDA website. Martyn is also a member of the Finance & Strategic Planning sub-committee and worked to develop the Quality Matters presentation and the Association's Strategic Plan.
