The next British Drilling Association (BDA) Webinar, which is planned for 11 February 2021, which is FREE to attend and will cover the fascinating topic of ‘data’ and the journey it takes from capture to its storage, use and reuse.
Commencing at 11.30am, for 1 hour, the webinar will be presented by Steve Thorpe, Geospatial Technician, British Geological Survey (BGS) and will take attendees on the ‘data journey’, with Steve showing the options for viewing the data held at BGS, the best way to send data and in what format, as well as a look at how BGS is trying to encourage sharing across the drilling and construction industry, through projects like the Dig-To-Share Initiative (https://www.i3p.org.uk/projects/digtoshare/), and the recently launched Big Borehole Dig (https://www.bgs.ac.uk/news/join-our-big-borehole-dig/).
Steve, as well as his work with the BGS, also co-runs the Onshore Drilling Facility (https://www.bgs.ac.uk/geological-research/science-facilities/engineering-geotechnical-capability/dando-drilling-capability/) and as such has expert knowledge of borehole data, the methods that BGS employ to absorb, communicate, and reuse data and how that data can best be used to understand the subsurface through geological modelling and investigations.
