Meet your BDA…

…John Grainger, the British Drilling Association’s (BDA) Director, Chair of the Finance & Strategy Sub-committee, and temporary General Manager.

John is a qualified Engineering Geologist and also has a Chartership as Geologist and Engineer. His career spans some 40-plus years of involvement in the ground investigation (GI) sector, having held various roles including Graduate Engineering Geologist, through to Managing Director. His experience also spans both small and large contractors/specialists, as well as working within consultants and as a company owner. He has worked on projects around the world too.

John has been involved in the BDA Management Committee since the early 2000’s and has held various roles, such as Past Chair/Vice Chair, Director, Chair of Marketing Sub-committee and Sub-committee Member, and has been on many a working group too. He has also represented the BDA to external associations, including the British Standards Institute.

As BDA Director, Chair of the Finance & Strategy Sub-committee and temporary General Manager, John’s main aim is to make the BDA fit for future, as an up-to-date business organisation with a modern and effective committee, each member of which being dedicated and focused on the BDA principles. He would also like to see the next generation of the drilling industry leaders being a part of the BDA, playing an active role within Committees. As John states: “The BDA is the association which leads, assists, develops, supports the drilling industry and partners with other similar/support organisation i.e., AGS, CITB, GSHPA and this must continue so that the BDA and the drilling sector can be even stronger in the future.”

John Added: “Significant, much needed, changes started within the BDA just over a year ago, with a large re-structure and the aim now is to keep this momentum going, with all BDA officers taking a key ownership and delivery role, plus dedicating their time to the Association’s tasks. This is important, as a number of these tasks need concluding in next year, at which point I will be content in departing the BDA at that 2022 AGM and retire, knowing that the BDA is fit for future of all in drilling industry.
