Urgent – RedR UK need your rig!

RedR UK, the disaster relief charity – https://www.redr.org.uk/ – is running a Water Well Drilling course, for humanitarian workers at Cranfield University, on 18 and 19 October 2022 and urgently require a rotary flush water well drilling set up, to demonstrate well drilling under the supervision of experienced trainers, for approximately 20 relief workers from overseas.

The drill site is owned by the University of Cranfield and has been used for many years for well drilling. Geology is Lower Greensand. Groundwater level is at ~ 11m bgl and the aim is to drill to 20m depth, then install 113mm OD screen and lining, followed by annular sand filter then bentonite seal. There are potentially some hard ironstone beds in the upper 2 to 3 metres and running sands below water level.  A mud rotary rig is required. Drillers need to be willing to work with trainers and share experience / explanations as required, with the delegates – but the trainers will liaise as needed.

The site is well organised and a forklift and other machinery will be available to help move equipment, additionally, Cranfield support staff are incredibly resourceful and helpful.  There is very little budget – £1,200 towards costs of consumables – e.g. fuel for drilling and transport. The previous driller also supplied their own drilling polymer. All other materials for lining and completing the installations are supplied by Boode.  If you don’t have a machine and crew available, maybe you have a drill site nearby that could be visited and the delegates get to experience and observe well drilling?
