January 31, 2025

The British Drilling Association (BDA) is inviting members to contribute to an important industry discussion on drilling method guidance.

We are inviting engineers and specialists of BDA member companies to attend a meeting where we will discuss key aspects of ground investigation techniques, with the aim of developing clear, practical guidance for the wider industry.

Key Topics for Discussion

The meeting will focus on the following areas:

  1. Guidance on Drilling Techniques
    • Development of a simple, single-sheet matrix outlining the benefits and applications of various drilling methods, including Windowless Sampling, Dynamic Sampling, Rotary, Cable Percussion, and Sonic drilling.
  2. Background on Investigation Techniques
    • A concise reference guide for those new to the industry, offering an overview of different ground investigation techniques and their respective applications.
  3. Ground Investigation Specification – Getting it Right First Time
    • Providing clear options for those specifying ground investigations, ensuring the correct technique is chosen from the outset.
    • Emphasising the value of Early Contractor Involvement (ECI) to improve project efficiency.
  4. Reference Guide for BDA Contractors
    • A practical resource for BDA contractors to enable them to challenge specifications where necessary and ensure the most appropriate ground investigation methods are selected based on site conditions.
