The next British Drilling Association (BDA) Webinar is planned for 13th May 1pm – 2pm and looks at the fascinating topic of “Hydrogeological Investigations for Construction Works”.
The webinar will be co-presented by William Powrie, Professor of Geotechnical Engineering, University of Southampton and Toby Roberts, Chair WJ Group and will look at hydrogeological investigations typically undertaken to supplement geotechnical investigations for construction projects where impacts from groundwater are anticipated.
The presentation will examine how the investigation strategy may involve groundwater level monitoring to identify short or longer-term fluctuations or trends and permeability assessment by variable head testing and packer testing. The short comings of these established tests will be briefly considered and contrasted with pumping tests, which are often the main element of a hydrogeological investigation.
What valuable information can be obtained where the pumping test design and specification aligns with the project scope, will also be discussed.
The presentation will draw on material from the forth coming Geological Society Publication Engineering Geology of Groundwater in Design and Construction: Chapter 6. Observational Models: Quantifying the Conceptual Model through Investigation co-authored by the presenters together with Mark Lee (Atkins).
