Introduction
The British Drilling Association (BDA) is at the forefront of promoting excellence and safety within the drilling industry. This year, we are thrilled to announce a landmark achievement in our journey towards enhancing industry standards – the resounding success of our BDA Audit programme and the prestigious addition of the Coal Authority to our membership portfolio.
BDA Audit: A Benchmark of Excellence
Over the past two years, the BDA Audit has undergone significant improvements, making it a cornerstone in verifying the competence and safety of drilling operations. This commitment to excellence is evident as all top 10 Ground Investigation (GI) contractors are now actively engaged with the BDA Audit. This participation provides BDA member company directors with invaluable peace of mind and assurance, knowing that their lead drillers meet the highest competency standards.
For example, BAM Ritchies, the leading UK drilling contractor, recently celebrated a remarkable milestone with over 50 audited lead and assistant drillers, highlighting the audit’s role in ensuring technical compliance and safety. Similarly, WJ UK’s successful integration of the Water Well audit into their operations showcases the audit’s versatility and relevance across different drilling sectors.
Reaching Wide
The BDA also welcomes the Coal Authority as a ‘client’ member. Known for their stewardship in coal mining operations, the Coal Authority’s expertise and commitment to environmental and public safety resonate deeply with the BDA’s objectives. Their membership not only marks a significant expansion of our influence but also enriches our perspective, furthering our ability to advocate and elevate the drilling sector.
Speaking about the Coal Authority’s commitment to the BDA Gareth Thomas, Head of Development from the Coal Authority said: “The Coal Authority is a forward thinking and practical organisation. We work with a range of partners to deliver for the communities we serve in Great Britain’s former mining areas. Being a client member will enable us to collaborate with the BDA and its members. This partnership will improve standards and ensuring the development projects we facilitate in former coal mining areas are not only sustainable but create a better future for people and the environment in mining areas “.
The partnership with the Coal Authority underscores the BDA’s dedication to safety, quality, and professionalism, and following the revamp of the BDA Audit, its wish to align itself with these values, proving that together, we can set new industry benchmark.
As we look towards 2023-24, the BDA continues to encourage and support its members to engage with the BDA Audit, ensuring that we collectively uphold and surpass the industry standards.
We are proud of the BDA’s achievements to-date and the steps it is taking towards a safer, more competent, and professional drilling industry.
If you’re not yet a member, join the BDA on its journey of excellence and continuous improvement.
